About Peptides
Every peptide BioLifeLab ships arrives lyophilized — freeze-dried to a powder. It is worth understanding why, because it explains most of the handling advice that follows.
1. Peptide synthesis
- Produced by solid-phase peptide synthesis (SPPS) or liquid-phase synthesis.
- Purified by HPLC and verified before release.
2. Preparation for lyophilization
- The purified peptide is dissolved in water or dilute acetic acid.
- The solution is filtered to remove particulates.
3. Freezing
- The solution is frozen below −40 °C, locking the peptide in a solid matrix.
4. Primary drying (sublimation)
- Under vacuum, the ice passes straight from solid to vapour without melting.
- This is the step that protects the peptide from the degradation a liquid phase would allow.
5. Secondary drying (desorption)
- Residual bound moisture is driven off until the powder is below 1–2% water content.
6. Sealing and storage
- Vials are sealed under nitrogen and held at low temperature.
- In this state the peptide is stable for extended periods; once reconstituted, it is not.
